The Perry-Mansfield New Works Festival, now in its 18th year, brings performing arts professionals together in the Rocky Mountains to continue Perry-Mansfield's founding principle of nurturing new talent with new work. Atlantic Theater Company, South Coast Repertory, Primary Stages and Denver Center for the Performing Arts Theatre Company will develop 4 different new works in partnership with Perry-Mansfield. Presented under Artistic Director, Andrew Leynse, (Primary Stages, NYC) Producer and Director of Theatre, Emily Tarquin (Denver Center for the Performing Arts Theatre Company, CO) and Executive Producer, Jim Steinberg with sponsorship from The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust, the New Works Festival will be held June 12th - 13th.

Students from the Perry-Mansfield Pre-Professional Track start their summer by observing the Festival.  They then continue on to develop and create their own new works, perform in an original production, and learn from Industry profesionals from all over the country.

Single tickets for each stages reading are $15 and a Festival Pass is available for $50 for all 4 readings. All tickets are available for purchase at www.perry-mansfield.org/events.  For advanced ticket reservations and other information, please call (970) 879-7125 and ask for Toni or email [email protected].

ABOUT THE PERRY-MANSFIELD NEW WORKS PROGRAM

The New Works program was founded in 1997 to provide a collaborative festival for voices in the arts. Students have the opportunity to interact and observe a professional new play development process and our guest artists get to craft their pieces in a relaxed environment with a very supportive staff and audience.

During the final stages of the New Works Festival, students attend workshops, readings and master classes led by these professionals. Select students are afforded the opportunity to participate, gaining professional experience and the opportunity to build relationships with renowned theatre organizations from across the country.

Past festival works include The Receptionist by Adam Bock (received critical acclaim at Manhattan Theatre Club), Lydia by Octavio Solis (Denver Center Theatre Company, Yale Rep), The Blue Flower by Jim Bauer & Ruth Bauer (Prospect Theatre at the West End Theatre), Plainsong by Eric Schmiedl (Denver Center Theatre Company), The Morini Strad by Willy Holtzman (Primary Stages, City Theatre), Maple and Vine by Jordan Harrison (Humana ATL, Playwrights Horizons), Eat Your Heart Out by Courtney Baron (Humana ATL), What's That Smell by David Pittu (Atlantic Theatre) and The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown with books & lyrics by Kait Kerrigan and music by Brian Lowdermilk (Goodspeed.)

About Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp

In 1913, Charlotte Perry and Portia Mansfield fulfilled their dreams of creating a theater and dance camp in the mountains. Now, in its 102nd year, Perry-Mansfield is recognized as the oldest continuously operating performing arts school and camp in the nation. Throughout the years, a number of distinguished alumni, faculty, and guest artists have passed through the doors of Perry-Mansfield. The list includes Jessica Biel, John Cage, Martha Clarke, Merce Cunningham, Julie Harris, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Lee, Jose Limon, Agnes de Mille, Lee Remick, Stephen Schwartz and Francis Sternhagen. Today, students from all over the world take classes from a select group of accomplished and internationally renowned faculty. The tradition of Perry-Mansfield remains unsurpassed as the camp continues to prepare emerging young artists for the stage. Since 1992, Perry-Mansfield has been owned and operated by a 501(c)3 non-profit organization called Friends of Perry-Mansfield, Inc., and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
